White lead, what is it?

Let's start with a little reminder: white lead is a decorative technique to bring out the wood grain in whitening and vieillisants. It involves digging the softer veins and garnish with a white paste (white lead) that highlights the contrast. Two solutions are available to you. The first Liming wood such. The other most common is to stain the wood before applying white lead.

Choosing the right furniture

Melamine, laminate, new or old ... All wood furniture can be ceruse. It just should prepare a minimum the media on which one will work. Note before launching, we can not Liming that new wood or delivered bare. Contrast, it will differ depending on the chosen support. White lead performed on open pore wood (pine, wenge, oak ...) will be more pronounced than in closed-pore wood like maple or birch. If the media is old, it must first be stripped of any previous finish (wax, varnish, stain ...).

The preference of the Louloupi blogger goes to the massive wooden furniture. " Easier to work with, they age better and are often better, not necessarily more expensive than their equivalent prize. "

White lead, manual

Phase 1. The first step is to prepare the cabinet for receiving the paint. The key is to start from a clean base: a good clean (water and soap) is required if it is recovered. Although the sub-layers are provided for hanging on all substrates, a small sanding ensure a perfect hold over time. If you have a furniture kit, do this before mounting: it is much simpler. If mounted, simply remove the drawers and shelves and working them as such. With a pad or cloth, apply a good amount of dough Liming. Follow circular motions and remove the excess with a clean cloth.

Phase 2. Then skip a white undercoat, see both. In this way the bottom is well prepared. Once dry, sand the paint to limit brushes brands.

Phase 3. The third step is to use a little paint color for linseed "sweep" a piece of furniture. To do this, dip slightly the tip of a flat brush in linseed paint, dab it on a plate to remove most of the paint and brush the furniture irregularly but linearly in the direction of the wood. Take the small touches with very little paint every time. Let dry. If you see some flaws (too much paint in places), do not panic! Sand to find the undercoat and reapply as needed.

Phase 4. The fourth step allows darken and uniform color. It is carried out on the mounted unit. The principle is simple: take the water tinged with a little linen painting, pass a brush on the furniture immediately by wiping with a cloth. This will give an aged side cabinet naturally leaving darker areas in the corners where dust accumulates naturally.

The aging is completed in simulating a natural wear. To this, sand the corners and edges of the furniture. On large surfaces (sides, doors, drawer fronts ...) some scratches with sandpaper and voila! Caution, do not forget to polish the furniture to protect it.
