The layout of a kitchen follows a well-established protocol. Direction of traffic, called triangle of activity, distances, cupboards and furniture ... A kitchen plan, well done, will facilitate the before and after meals. Nicolas Sallavuard, certified architect, reminds us these five sacred rules that will make the kitchen functional space, pleasant and cooking.

Rule 1: the triangle Attraction
cooking plates, sink and refrigerator are the three pillars of the organization of your kitchen plan: these are the main areas where the current work is exercised and kitchen business triangle. Many of the trips you make in your kitchen takes place in one of these points to the other. To facilitate travel, it is important that the distance between these three areas is as much as possible equal, and not too large. In the corners, do not place the sink (possibly the rack) or the hob.
To remember : Gas stove, sink and refrigerator, it is important that the distance between these three zones is equal or almost. Also avoid excessive distances between the three points.

Rule # 2: The Journey of clean and dirty
Back from the dining room, plates and dirty dishes are placed on the worktop. Before being placed in the dishwasher, they go through the trash and eventually sink. These three elements (trash, sink and dishwasher) must be close to each other with a simple and easy circulation. Closets, cabinets and drawers that can store clean dishes should also be near the dishwasher for that one move, you can empty one to fill the other.
To remember : Consider the flow of dirty plates and dishes: deposit on the work plan, move to trash can to throw the remains, possibly sink to rinse and dishwasher. This path must be simple, quick and painless. It is the same for tracking clean between the dishwasher (or drainer) and storage areas clean dishes.

Rule # 3: the heights to respect
The heights of the work plan and household items primarily depend on your size. Remember however that in case of rental or resale, your successors will not necessarily be the same size as you. The work plan must be at waist height (85 to 95 cm) so you can reach the bottom of the sink without bending. The oven is placed preferably at eye level. A bar shelf should be at the height of your elbow (between 110 and 115 cm). To avoid hitting your head on the hood, it must be about 60 cm plates. In the highest cupboards, last accessed shelf should be about 220 cm.

Rule # 4: measures to comply
Large household appliances such as the oven or dishwasher, fits into a square of 60 cm side: so this is the minimum size of the work plan. But now the kitchen designers prefer increasingly deeper planes (65 cm) for increased comfort. To facilitate travel in your kitchen, leave 70 cm minimum free to your furniture. 90 cm allow you to easily bypass a closet or an open dishwasher. 120 cm allow you to work at two in the kitchen and seeing you without disturbing you.

Rule 5: light
